Blog Moving to Google Classroom (effective immediately)

It was so wonderful meeting with you all for conferences these past two days :) As mentioned, we will be moving all further blog announcements/updates over to our Google Classroom. If you need help accessing it, please reach out to your child's teacher.

Thank you! :)

Wednesday Fun Day!

Note: early dismissal tomorrow (11:45am)

Thank you to everyone who logged into our Google Meets for our Virtual Classroom Tour yesterday.  If you were unable to join, the video is now posted on our Google Classroom.

Log In Information:  Your child has brought home their login information for a variety of websites that we access at school: Raz-kids, Prodigy (math) and Xtra math.  We hope this information will be helpful, especially if your child misses some days of school.

We look forward to Parent Teacher Conferences and talking with you about your child.  Ms. Gardner still has many parents who have not signed up.

Virtual Class Tour - Tuesday 4pm

Preparing for our Virtual Tour:

Today we started to compile some photos and videos to share with our families for our Class Virtual tour tomorrow at 4pm.  You should have received an email from your child's teacher with details about our Virtual Tour on Google Meet as well as Parent Teacher Conferences.  If you are needing any support, please do not hesitate to email your child's teacher.  It might be a good idea to practice a log into Google this evening if it has been awhile since your child has logged into their educbe account at home.

Place Value & Terry Fox

We have been doing some fantastic work with place value in the last week - working on hundreds, tens, ones, and the value of the numbers. Here we are playing "Place Value Yahtzee" to practice working on these skills!

We also discussed the Terry Fox Run. It's going to look different this year (surprise, surprise!) but we're working together as a Grade 3 team to "walk to Peru"! We have 7684km we're going to aim to walk collectively. Our inspiration came from this video... check it out!

Have a wonderful weekend, stay safe and healthy, and we look forward to seeing you next Monday!

Thursday!

Reminder:  Don't forget to sign up for parent teacher conferences that are next Thursday and Friday!

Math - We did a Place Value check for numbers to 1000.  Check it out!!  Some of your children may also have brought it home for you to see!  You can continue to practise and "quiz" your kiddo tonight on this as well!

Science - We read the book, What Do You Do With a Tail Like This? and added more animal adaptations to our Visual Journal page.  What other animals have adaptations that help them survive?

What a Wednesday!

Thank you to those of you who are staying home as per AHS protocols. We know it's hard to be away, but we are all working together to keep everyone as safe and healthy as possible!

Highlights from our learning today:
  • In math we learned about the value of numbers in place value (e.g. a 4 in the 10s column means a value of 40, but a 4 in the 100s column means a value of 400!)
  • We sorted pictures into animals, food, buildings, transportation, landscapes, and more! (Taylor)
  • For science, we used the computers to learn about animal adaptations (Natalie)
    • adaptations are what they do to protect themselves (Norah)
    • Body Coverings:
      • fish have body coverings to protect themselves in the water (Declan)
      • turtles have hard shells to protect themselves (Malcolm)
    • Behaviours:
      • rattlesnakes use their tails to warn enemies (Aiden)
      • skunks scare away their predators with a smell (Chasity)
    • Body Parts:
      • fish have gills to breathe underwater (Kiana)
      • pikas have sharp teeth to bite off plants and keep them to eat in winter (Aykut)

Reminders for this week:
  • Please sign up for conferences if you haven't yet (click here!).
  • library books are due (from last year) if you have a pink slip
  • Fridays are early dismissal (11:45)
Check out our Google Classroom for more fun links!

Parent Teacher Conferences Next Week

Reminder:  Don't forget to log into your CBE account to book your parent teacher conference for next Thursday evening or Friday morning!  This is a great way for us to get to know more about your child and how to support them as a learner!

Fire Drill Time!!

Overdue Library Books!   Thank you for all the friends who found lost library books and have returned them!!  If your child had a pink library slip, please look for those books!

Today we had our first Fire Drill.  Everyone did a super duper job of listening and showing Grade 3 excellent fire drill skills!!! - Sawyer

Today we logged into the computers and accessed our Google accounts as well as our Raz-kids accounts. - Zaeem

In art today we continued to work on our visual journal cover pages. - Jaxon

We learned about place value and the 100's place value.  Ask your child what the base ten block for 100 is called!

Thursday!

What a beautiful day in Grade 3 today! Please make sure you are dressing appropriately for outdoor Phys. Ed :)

In math, we worked on solving this problem:

Parents and guardians... can you figure it out? What strategy did you use?

Reminders:
  • tomorrow is the last day that students will be dismissed with their teachers. Starting on Monday, students will be dismissed from the doors (aka without a teacher) . We know we have super responsible students, but please ensure you have a meeting place or a plan for your child to get home safely. Thank you :) If you have any concerns about this, please let us know.
  • Thank you for those of you who have returned your demographic forms already! Please return ASAP if you have not yet sent them in

Wednesday Sept 9

It was another great day in Grade 3.  Here are a few highlights:

We learned a new game Alien, Tiger, Cow - Zaeem

Today in math we did a test to see our math skills and we also played the game PIG - Muhammad

In writing we worked on a plan all about me - Corbin

Today at music we got a new, cool Music folder to keep our music papers in - Chasity

Reminders:  Please return your blue DEMOGRAPHIC sheets ASAP.  This is much appreciated.

Hello Tuesday!

We had another wonderful day in Grade 3 and I am very impressed with everyone as they continue to go with the flow and follow the routines with keeping everyone safe.  We are so proud of each of our students and hope you will tell them how proud you are of them too!  It's important for our kiddos to know that they are doing an amazing job!  You can give them a squeeze (hug) as well :)

We had our first School Assembly today which was ONLINE!!!  Thank goodness for Google Meet!  Ask your child which adults they saw on the Assembly today.

Reminders:  Important Demographic sheets with personal information is going home.  This year, more than ever, it is important that these sheets have the correct information for us.  Please return ASAP

Me in a Collage - Don't forget to have your child sign into their Google Classroom to complete their slide for 3 things about them.  It has been great to learn a little bit about those who have done theirs already.  We will make the deadline to finish this till this THURSDAY!  If you are having difficulties adding to your slide, you can email your pictures to your teacher: algardner@cbe.ab.ca or hgseymour@cbe.ab.ca

Don't forget - To have your child bring a water bottle each day to school with them, filled and ready to go!

Label your personal items - even those masks!!!  Someone lost a mask but because it was labelled it came back to them.  Having a lost and found at school will be extremely challenging during this time, so the more things that have labels, the better!

Drop and Go - We appreciate those parents who have been doing a great job in the morning at drop off!!!  Keep it up

End of the Day Pick Up - make sure you have the meeting place figured out so your child(ren) know where to meet you at the end of the day!

Wow! Our first week was incredible!

We are SO impressed with our Grade 3s so far. This week they demonstrated flexibility and patience as we adjusted to our new routines and protocols.

Today we had a phenomenal day, showing off our writing stamina while we wrote about our table buddies. We enjoyed playing on the playground for Phys. Ed, then finishing our day working on our self-portraits.

Photos to come next week!

Reminders:

  • please label everything ... if your child loses something and it has a name on it, we can return it to them if we find it. Unfortunately, if your child loses something and there's no name, it's unlikely it will be returned
  • bring your own water bottles, spoons, forks, etc.
  • if you want to share three things with your classmates on Tuesday, please go to https://classroom.google.com and fill in your three pictures
  • please go through the COVID checklist every morning before coming to school (see the link on the right side of this blog) - you do not need to fill or send these in, but please ensure you are staying home if you are showing any signs of sickness

Next week at a glance:

  • demographic forms are coming home
  • starting September 14th, Grades 1-4 students will be dismissed from the door (teachers will not be outside to help students find their parents/pick-up people). Please make sure that students know how to get to their meeting spot from our parking lot doors
  • please remember that mornings are drop-and-go ... thank you to those who are not congregating in big groups outside

Second day of school!

Reminder: please do the COVID Screening Checklist every morning before school.

Highlights from today:

  • Today we got to play a game in math using place value called "Fill the Stairs" (NW)
  • We did phys. ed outdoors on the playground! (MA)
  • We had a competition in music which was a game to review (TN & SF)
  • In writing, we had a choice of what we could write about. I wrote about when I went to the zoo! (KB)
  • We made a class promise and put it in our visual journals (JL)
  • Three people shared their favourite things from Google Classroom (MM) (link to Google Classroom so you can do your assignment here)
  • We played a fun game to get to know each other called "Stand up if you..." (AA)
See you in the morning for our first Friday in Grade 3! Remember that pickup is at 11:45 :)

First (2) Days!!

What a great first day of school we had (twice!)!!  We can already tell that we have a great group of Grade 3s and look forward to seeing EVERYONE together tomorrow!

We have really appreciated our students being patient with us as we work on our routines and figure out our new "Normal" of being at school.  If your child comes home with a concern, we hope that you will reach out to us so we can address any concerns.  We are here for you and your child!

COVID Screening Questionnaire - We discussed the COVID Screening Questionnaire that is an important part of keeping everyone safe before coming to school.  It should be completed each day before your child comes to school.  It does not need to be filled out, but asking your child how they are feeling before coming to school will help keep everyone safe.  If you are needing the link, you can find it here

We've put a fun "get to know you" task on a new Google Classroom for the year. Don't worry if you can't get in or remember your login... it's not mandatory, but we went over how to do it together as a class so your child should be able to get in. We'll send home login information with students tomorrow.

Reminders:

* please fill your water bottle at home

* bring indoor shoes to leave at school if you haven't yet

We'll see everyone at the bike racks tomorrow morning before 8:07!
